I remember seeing this dog and the speaker in the Smithsonian. Cute to see what else the dog did besides barking.

the best of it: Man on the right laughing with great delight at the dog's behavior, almost forgetting to do anything about it 🧡🧡🧡

I wanna know what nonsense they were playing to that dog, seems like a fun little template…

It was my wife and Lester Smith of Abbey Road Studios who extracted the photos from the mutoscope Lester had found and digitised this video (Lester was the specialist in restoring and maintaining old studio equipment esp microphones up til his retirement last year)

This is hilarious but alas it can't be the original Nipper, who died three years before the first version of the painting that was adapted to make the "His Master's Voice" image.

3 links with relevant info for those who, like me, were immediately compelled to find out more about this video:
Wikipedia has some good info about Nipper and the original painting - en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nipper

Information about mutoscopes in general and “Nipper Runs Amok” specifically - emiarchivetrust.org/secrets-of…

And the film itself - youtu.be/XNlkMsBh6I4?si=rxFuUn…

@AndorianSoup

It's and old film that was called "Nipper runs a-mock"

Nipper being the name of the RCA terrier.

But, it's probably not the exact same dog. Just a variation on the theme from the same time period.

Does that make it "genuine"? IDK

Another way to look at this is:
men place animal famous for biting and tearing things apart, a literal "terrier" in front of expensive machine and are shocked when the obvious occurs.

Fox terriers are so well known for not wreaking havoc and tearing the world a new hole. /s

I re-enter a room where my pittie and husband are chilling and the pup always needs several minutes of bone chewing to contain his excitement 😂

It's hard to be sure, but they don't actually seem surprised. It looks as though the guy on the right lets go of the dog once it's already staining to get at the phonograph horn. The one on the left doesn't exactly rush to stop it. Given that it was being filmed, I wonder if they simply let this happen for the camera?

I wonder if they were actually trying to demo the slogan, and play a recording of his master's voice?
