What Republican voters enjoy most about the Trump regime are its performative aspects: its contempt, its bullying, and its bragging. Having Trump in power is the main thing to them, regardless of what else he might do. They feel like they won and established "dominance."

They for the most part don't understand and don't care about policy with real world consequences, and in fact, they're apt to be furious when those consequences land on them.

What everyone else should realize about Trump is that you should simply ignore him and his cronies and tell them to go fuck themselves and if they push it, you will see them in court.

Every organization that has fallen over itself trying to appease him has bled for it because he smells weakness.

Everyone else should simply refuse.

Every state in the nation should likewise declare ICE agents persona non grata with no legal authority to act within their borders and arrest these masked terrorists on sight.

The problem is that the people to do that arresting would have to be the police and the police all love ICE and dream of being ICE. Because ACAB.

The only way states could arrest or expel ICE is by abolishing the police.

Once you've delegated the enforcement of state laws to armed goons, the only laws that will get enforced are the ones armed goons agree with.

@dalias There have been several incidents where police cooperated with ICE despite city laws specifically prohibiting them from doing so. The Worcester incident is an especially prominent example.

Police don't respect civilian governments.

@foolishowl "Police don't respect civilian governments" cannot be stated strongly enough.

Democracy cannot have police.

I thought it was the other way around and the ice are the police academy washouts.
in reply to Lorraine Lee

@lori Historically that may have been true. I don't really mean all police dream of being in ICE. Rather, they dream of getting to act with impunity in the manner ICE now does.
in reply to Cassandrich

@lori And again for the critics: this does not mean every single person who's a LEO has that desire. It means that, as a group, police do, and the individuals who have that desire naturally bubble to the top of he hierarchy while the ones below them are still willfully participating in it and enforcing the power of those at the top, and thereby all guilty.

Yes, you can't appease a bully. No amount of bootlicking will make sure he'll not drop you (or/and kick you in the face) whenever the fancy strikes him or you've stopped being useful to him or whatever. He'll take what he can get, and then some more, and more, and more until nothing is left.
