There is a voice in my head that keeps saying "There is a concentration camp in the swamps of Florida." When I'm shopping for groceries. When I'm taking a shower. "There is a concentration camp in the swamps of Florida."

Here is a tiny victory in a much bigger battle. There was a tension I've been holding in me ever since this place opened that I didn't even know was there.

Which cronies of the MAGA got the contracts for that swampy concentration camp. They get money for building it and for tearing it down.

The largest single contract, at $78.5 million: Jacksonville based Critical Response Strategies which is responsible for hiring corrections officers, camp managers and IT personnel.

Thanks for these links. I don't know how I missed them in the article. 😬 Critical Response strategies appears to be a shell company, and is only 4 years old. Will Adkins, who seems to be in property development, is listed as the principle. But other people have been looking for who owns these companies. jaxtrib.org/2025/07/16/jackson… I don't know if this is the same Will Adkins. waterfrontgrp.com/

I couldn't find any photos of the owners or contact info like address or phone number on two of those sites.

I do hope to get their names out and that they get snubbed at least by some people.

Looking at these companies, I'm getting the feeling it's a land based 'smash and grab'

Yes, and more to come, quietly, in places no one hears about, while everyone has been focused on the PR-stunt one.

@leadore

It was a more than a PR stunt. It was a trial balloon to see if they could get the public to go along with having it all out in the open operating at full capacity.

Dammit now you have me wondering if they didn’t fight back hard enough against the lawsuit just to let it go away without needing to admit it was wrong and disgusting.

wait woah woah woah it' just. closed down? it's barely been even like two months right

@sterophonick

It looks like it will close. It was in a wetland and they skimped on sewage treatment. It was a blight on many levels.

in reply to myrmepropagandist

Closed due to violations of environmental law rather than violations of human rights. It’s shameful that they can open another one following environmental rules and a whole new fight will have to happen.

I don't live in FL, but ofc this is all "our" money. It sickens me so much that taxes fund these abuses
in reply to myrmepropagandist

every single time we make them take two months to do something they wanted to do in a week, that’s a win. That’s two months that they aren’t doing something else terrible. Every time we make them take a concentration camp apart and spend more money building another one, that’s a win.

It’s nowhere near enough, but I guarantee things would’ve gotten much worse much faster and hurt many more people by now if not for these little wins.

GUM UP THE WORKS
And if your arm gets twisted till you have to say you might do it, maybe say it then don't do anything.

And if you ever do? Do it wrong.

My favorite instance is this is the French automaker who's factory was taken over by the Nazis to make Nazi jeeps/tanks. He designed an oil dip stick that is functional for inspection but after driving the auto for a bit, no longer works as intended, so a lot of Nazi autos would do whatever it is that happens when you never change the oil. They blamed this on "French incompetence" and never considered that it was designed to fail.
