@justine it could be implemented (we already have a test implementation from akkoma, that I used to migrate my old broken instance). But we won’t implement it because snac is great, and I could never do anything to harm that project, because I love it and the dev is a very nice person.

☝️Two follow up thoughts from the conversations on this thread:
Patience.
For a lot of people, this is their first foray into non-compliance. They are going to start with small things within their comfort zone. This isn't a failure to do bigger things, this is training for it.
Self compassion.
If you are finding yourself angry at how little others are doing, you may be burned out. Rest is resistance too, as is pivoting to joy or humour in how you protest.

Have a look at #GotoSocial, or #snac or even #LittleFedi - all perfectly hostable even from Raspberry Pis. And if you are only interested in hosting one to a handful accounts you won't miss anything from Mastodon. Although GotoSocial can also hosts 1000s of users (the other two mentioned, less so)

There is a person I've been helping for a while who runs two instances, one #GoToSocial and one #snac.
Yesterday, they suffered severe file system corruption on their device, and I lent them a hand with the recovery. For GoToSocial, they restored the DB from the previous backup and got it running again. For snac, although a few files were lost, no action was necessary... it just started back up and did what it had to do, bringing the instance back to full operation.
This goes to show that when software is well-designed and intentionally kept simple, it's also easier to get back up and running when something goes wrong. In this case, snac's "files-only" approach demonstrated excellent resilience.

Fixed it the old-school way, by unplugging and reconnecting the power supply. Now the Raspi that holds the instance is running off a power bank 🙂

@piepants For me, snac has been really good! Easy to set up, and once that’s done, it just purrs along. No performance issues on a Raspi Zero 2W behind an aging home router.
I’m running it on Debian, but I would expect snac to function just as well on *BSD, if not better.
