My poor instance still isn't fetchable from the larger Fediverse. I am stumped.

Can people "post" stuff to a person's INBOX if
they don't have any relationship? (in ActivityPub)

That might explain why I have a single instance snac
server, and still get basically spam posts.

I know I get something similar to that when there is
like a secondary relationship thru someone i am following.
But these things I see seemingly have no connecting relationships.

I disabled emoji reactions (too ripe for abuse in the microblogging world, works very well for chats though IMO). I also enabled strict_public_timelines; while it was nice seeing every conversation everyone I follow was involved in (genuinely surfaces interesting things), I am becoming a busy man as time goes on (and I am here for it) so I need to tone down my social media usage.

Max poll options doubled to 16.

Replies to my posts are no longer automatically purged (if I understood the manpage correctly).

Thanks to the snac author for the perfect ActivityPub implementation for me 🍻

fam: did you know that you can share direct urls to snac users' posts and hide the bio?

just append the url with ?terse=true

            behold and compare the results!

Friendly periodic reminder that snac is a great, great piece of software.

I've upgraded in minutes, recompiling snac *inside each jail*.

The Fediverse, as the Fediverse should be.

so I am hopefully back online.

There is a person I've been helping for a while who runs two instances, one and one .

Yesterday, they suffered severe file system corruption on their device, and I lent them a hand with the recovery. For GoToSocial, they restored the DB from the previous backup and got it running again. For snac, although a few files were lost, no action was necessary... it just started back up and did what it had to do, bringing the instance back to full operation.

This goes to show that when software is well-designed and intentionally kept simple, it's also easier to get back up and running when something goes wrong. In this case, snac's "files-only" approach demonstrated excellent resilience.

                    Thanks, @grunfink !
