in reply to James Gleick • • •A private company has launched an app called ICERAID, billed as a “protocol that delegates intelligence-gathering tasks to citizens that would otherwise be undertaken by law enforcement agencies.” The app promises rewards for “capturing and uploading images of criminal illegal alien activity” and possibly even bigger rewards for self-reporting — for adding oneself to the ICERAID registry if one is “an honest, hard-working undocumented immigrant with no criminal history.”

This is ridiculous. The rule of law is being destroyed constitutional rights are being violated at the national level.
Local officials have to step up and put an end to it.

He's not, and he's on his way out, there's a mayoral election soon.
The old fuck-up governor of NY state who got driven out of office due to sexual misconduct (Cuomo) is running, but a progressive (Zohran Mamdani) is making good strides as well. They are the front runners at the moment.
NYC has ranked choice voting, which makes it possible to vote for who you want without "wasting" your vote, so Zohran has a good chance.
