Anti-immigration politics has been a worldwide trend for the last decade or longer and is clearly the spear point of a fascist project. Throughout history, anti-immigration politics has gone hand in hand with fascist dictatorships, the rise of the KKK in the 1920s, the Nazi-sympathizing "America First" movement of the WWII era, etc. Anti immigration politics is not to be reasoned with, let alone compromised with. It must be pushed back to the margins of public opinion, or history will judge us harshly, and rightly so.
