I think the AI ethics work I do is often mixed in with the RAI folks but it’s becoming clear that I feel like I’m a virologist studying ways to prevent viruses from jumping into humans, not making it easier for viruses to replicate and jump ‘responsibly’
I feel like I'm willing to compare this to "corporate DEI", where genuine, honest actors are hamstrung by the system, which then optimizes for grifters who know how to sell the appearance of DEI while ensuring it remains toothless. This is definitely how "responsible AI" stuff seemed to work when I was at MSFT.
