@countablenewt I will always treasure the memory of a cow-orker who once pronounced SQL*Plus as "squeal! splat! plus!" (I am well aware he was not the only one) @greem @bloor
@mrrmot @countablenewt @greem If you're like me and came from a Microsoft software development background, you might wonder about the proliferations of "sharps". The world replied "Those are hashtags!"
Just to be clear, my post was referring to the programming languages C# and F# (pronounced C-sharp and F-sharp). I believe these are rendered as pound signs instead of the musical shape.
The best part about this situation is how one pronounces SQL tells on which database was the first one you were exposed to because the vendors disagree.
I do find it random what TLAs people pronounce and what they don't. I mean obviously "sequel" is superior to "ess cue ell": there's no contest in that one.
But I've met people who say VEE AYE (vi) and EEE TEE CEE (et-cee).
On the other hand, there's a pit in the inferno reserved for people who say JOT instead of JAY DOUBLE-U TEE.
Meet Dennis Moore, the noble outlaw who robs from the rich⦠and gives to the poor, particularly anyone in need of lupins. Adventure, absurdity, and Monty Pyt...
