No fancy shenanigans needed to allow variable-number-of-arguments, and no need for a special apply keyword (since every function call f(a, b, c) is basically (apply f (list a b c)))
Same with return types. Every function returns a list, so no special values stuff going on
foreach), so I like just being able to use the standard $_ variableWhen other languages do it, its called "tacit" or "point-free" programming, but when Perl does it its called "a mess" and "a crime against humanity"
FOSS search help, please?
Anyone got recommendations for a site offering surveys/polling that isn't tied to variously problematic and horrible providers? And is free?
Thanks!
mmm anyone has recommendations for TVs that work without connecting them to the internet?

Upgrading Mastodon was a hot mess as usual. I'm looking forward to going back to Friendica and going forward to SNAC2 and GoToSocial, all at once.
A lot of my colleagues are concerned that #XMPP could kill all of humanity by the end of this decade. This is not a marketing stunt.
the trouble with roguelikes is even if you force yourself to go through their bullshit long enough that you get to a good part and start enjoying yourself, as soon as something goes wrong all the fun will completely vanish and it will demand you waste more time doing the shitty part again for no reason, and you'll feel more bored and annoyed than if you hadn't bothered
roguelikes are the most English of all game designs, because their top priority is in stopping you from having a good time
I like long games sometimes, long games where I can experiment, rather than use the one thing I know works for fear of having to start from the beginning again.
@uoou i already felt like this by early 2018 😑
I really like non-JRPG turn based tactics games. And 99% of the new otherwise-cool looking ones are fucking roguelikes.
@uoou it just adds so little to most things it's shoved into. and half the time it's just there because that's What You Do
To an extent I get it. If you're a single dev or a small group it's a way of stretching less material over more time. But when it's working against the qualities of your game, I dunno, think a bit harder.
I've also seen a good few games marked as roguelike by their devs, cos I think it's still seen as a selling point, which aren't really - they just have a permadeath option or an overmap that works like some popular roguelikes, and that's frustrating too.

it's still older content as I just finished reposting my pixelfed posts, but I have a big backlog of negatives to scan and upload!
Compare that to Omarchy: dot files for Arch, backed by billionaire patrons and marketed as the future of Linux, with a founder who's spent years publicly campaigning against DEI, disbanded his own company's diversity committee, cheered the end of race-conscious college admissions, and recently wrote a blog post comparing Romani people to wolves that need culling and ending with "when gypsies take over public spaces, you deport them."
If you want to put money or attention behind open source projects, consider those who are actually improving the space and not the guy with the biggest megaphone...

One *should* judge a book by its cover when it is an AI cover. An AI cover leads inevitably to the judgement Do Not Buy This Book, Ever.

People could just say they don't want Copyleft. That would be perfectly okay. No need for bashing. ✌️
