I have been advising people for years that if you plan on entering the US, even as a US citizen, you should not carry any electronic devices that are not completely wiped clean.

You are better off storing your data someplace accessible online, then accessing it remotely, than you are having anything that can be learned about you stored locally on a device you are carrying across the border.

Do NOT use biometric access, at all!

We live in interesting times. Friend of mine is a scientist in France. He just got briefing on what to do when traveling to the US. He was told to use an empty, freshly installed laptop with nothing but his presentation on it. Uninstall all messengers and social media. If he has to surrender any of his devices even for a minute, he shall get it checked by the French secret service for back-doors and Trojans.

I guess I rather stay home then going to a conference in the US.

I wonder whether Steve Mann's biometric briefcase stunt would fly today.

Fingerprint-scanning briefcase designed to be opened by anyone except the owner. Therefore, a security guard wishing to search the owner’s case must submit to being fingerprinted!
