"Searching" fully qualified URLs is part of all flavors of Fediverse experience, as far as I know. It's probably a core weakness of the Fediverse when it comes to wider adoption. At this time, a "non-technical" interface seems to strongly imply non-visibility of URLs. I don't think that's reasonable, but it is what it is.
